PARK AND BOTANICAL GARDEN

On the banks of the Umia, in the heart of Caldas, we can find one of the most attractive places for tourists. It is a centuries-old botanical garden, with about sixty species of trees and shrubs from the five continents.

It is considered one of the most interesting botanical complexes in the province, enjoying the official declaration as a “Historic Garden and Picturesque Place” since 1962, and since 1985 as an Asset of Cultural Interest. Upstream (about 2 km), the river reaches its maximum beauty with a large waterfall.

The complex that forms the oak grove and the botanical garden of Caldas de Reis has just been awarded the Q for Tourist Quality as a “singular public space”, according to the notification received by the City Council from the Spanish Tourism Quality Institute.

This distinction is especially important since it is one of the first awarded to a public space on the pilgrimage routes to Santiago.

The distinction evaluates the quality of the whole, the management system or the equipment and services provided. Also noteworthy is the quality guarantee of the products and services offered by the unique public spaces and the adaptation of the services to the expectations and needs of visitors, as well as the continuous improvement of the unique public space seen as a whole.

THE SALNÉS GREENWAY (OLD RAILWAY LINE).

In Spain, there are more than 2,900 kilometers of disused railway infrastructure that have been converted into cycle and hiking routes within the framework of the Greenways Programme, coordinated by the Spanish Railways Foundation.

The Provincial Council of Pontevedra and the town councils of Vilagarcía de Arousa, Caldas de Reis and Portas have prepared the Salnés Greenway in Pontevedra that takes its steps on the old disused Pontevedra-Santiago railway line. The Xunta de Galicia (Regional Goverment), through the Department of the Environment, Territory and Housing, has also collaborated in the work on a section of this Greenway.

This pedestrian path and tourist cycle combines landscape, culture and history along its route.

With 9.2 km from the Ande halt (Rubiáns) to the old Portas Train Station, the Salnés Greenway is the first and unique Greenway that runs its entire length through the Galician Community.

PEDRA FILGA ROUTE IN CALDAS – PONTEVEDRA

According to the Galicia Máxica website: in Caldas de Reis, we have the so-called Pedra Filga, a surprising set of three gigantic rocks that remind us of an amazing megalithic monument. Whether it is a millennia-old human formation will remain for scholars, although it is most likely a surprising whim of nature. At this point it is rare that any archaeologist has considered the possibility of human intervention, but we never know. Maybe we should call Indy.
